Gretna Theatre artistic director Will Stutts opens each presentation of "The Miracle Worker," Gretna's final summer offering, by telling the audience that this particular play is a personal labor of love.

The Gretna production is his most recent turn at interpreting the play that began his directing career. That first job was in his native Alabama at Ivy Green, the Keller homestead. It incorporated the very cast-iron pump from which the young Helen Keller (1880- 1968) discovered the connection between words and the rest of the universe. ...
