City boxing gym's home being sold at sheriff's sale
|
The East Side Athletic Club, a city boxing gym at 219 E. King St.
that has given hundreds of struggling kids something to believe in,
is closing and is scheduled to be sold at a sheriff's sale today. "A
lot of years of social work and boxing are coming to an end," said
Barry Stumpf, a Golden Gloves Hall of Fame boxing coach who struggled
to keep the gym open for 11 years. "I kept trying to buy time."
Stumpf's motto, "It's better to sweat in the gym than bleed in the
