Tour Takes Key Battle To Streets; City Sites Marked At Fredericksburg

The Battle of Fredericksburg began in the pre-dawn hours with the
muffled sound of Union troops moving alongside the Rappahannock
River.
When it ended five days later on Dec. 13, 1862, on Marye's
Heights, nearly 18,000 men had been wounded or killed, the
Confederates had won and the city was in ruins.
The battle along the stone wall at Marye's Heights always has been
a favorite for Civil War buffs. But the fighting that took place on
city streets has not been easily traced.
Now Civil War enthusiasts can track the battle by following a new
$22,000 walking tour created by Fredericksburg city ...
