Orthodox Christians venerate icons by making the sign of the cross before them and kissing them. This act represents respect for the saint they represent or the sacred event they portray. This pious practice does not constitute worship. Orthodox worship only God, not the saints or anyone else. Orthodox Christians also use icons in their homes and normally pray before them. Icons create a reverent atmosphere for prayer and worship.
