Reaching 100 'just happens' in Beatrice Hostetter's family

Beatrice Hostetter, who is celebrating her 100th birthday today, said the way to reach the century milestone is to "just go on day after day, and it happens."

Beatrice said she expected to reach the milestone if she stayed in fairly good health because long lives run in her family. Her maternal grandmother celebrated 104 birthdays, and her great-aunt reached her 107th birthday.

"We never stressed (long life) to any extent," she said. "It just happened."

Born on Nov. 3, 1904, in Oswego, N.Y., Beatrice was the youngest of four children of George and Clara May Lesher.
