Northern flying squirrels facing some hard times
|
Who knew that there are more flying squirrels in Pennsylvania than
gray squirrels? Especially since 1,063,996 grays were killed during
hunting seasons in 2003, and it barely dented their population.
Southern flying squirrels remain abundant, but a normally positive
behavior is harming the state's small population of Northern flying
squirrels.
Research has shown that Pennsylvania's Northern flying squirrels
are going against the norm and sharing territory, even nesting
quarters, with the similar-looking Southern flying squirrel.
