A woman's work comes home; Eighteenth-century needlework sampler returns to Ephrata Cloister

A one-of-a-kind piece of Ephrata Cloister history has come home for a visit.

A handmade sampler believed to have been finished in 1768 by Sister Petronella is on display in Ephrata Cloister's visitors center now through Dec. 31.

The sampler, which likely contains threads woven by Petronella herself, is the only piece of 18th-century needlework made by a Cloister inhabitant known to still exist.
