Who sent President James Buchanan an ardent valentine saying the correspondent "loves U well''?

How about Alexander Stephens?

Well, didn't that come out of left field?

And doesn't that reopen a can of worms?

And how many questions can a Scribbler column ask before it settles down and explains itself?

OK, here's the basis for this strange line of questioning.

On the day before Valentine's Day, the Scribbler published the text of a poem sent to Buchanan at the White House on Valentine's Day in 1858.
