A forgotten founding Founding Father; MU history professor makes case for John Winthrop in new biography

Come Friday, Americans will celebrate the origins of their
country, remembering Founding Fathers such as George Washington,
Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin.
Millersville University history professor Francis J. Bremer would
like to see another name added to that list: John Winthrop (1588-
1649), first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
Winthrop's efforts to recreate a "godly kingdom" in New England _
"a city upon a hill' _ and to protect it from English interference
surely qualify him. The MU history department chairman makes the case
in a 478-page biography, "John Winthrop: ...
