A year ago, it hit Lancaster County like a magnitude-8 earthquake: John Barley was quitting the state House of Representatives.

And the aftershocks are still rippling through county politics. On the surface, the most visible change has been in the county's House delegation, which now is dominated by people Barley didn't choose.

In Harrisburg, his clout has been divvied up, and it's doubtful that anyone with his kind of influence will arise in the near future - certainly not from Lancaster County.

And in Barley's home, Manor Township, the people who fought against him now have the whip hand.
