Clay Township farmer, 41, dies when fire destroys chicken house; Neighbors believe victim might have ruptured gas line, causing explosion

A fast-moving blaze destroyed a Clay Township chicken house Monday afternoon, killing a 41-year-old farmer working inside the building when it caught fire.

Officials identified the victim as Ezra G. Sensenig, of 490 W. Weidmanville Road. A neighbor said Sensenig is survived by his wife and nine children.

Sensenig was cleaning the empty chicken house with a tractor and a piece of machinery called a "housekeeper" when the fire started. Neighbors speculated that Sensenig might have caused an explosion by rupturing a gas line used for heating inside the building.
