Phil Sykes recalls a time when the pick-up field hockey games held
everyday after school were nothing more than a spectator sport to
him.
"I actually watched it for a couple of years, thinking it was
really violent and there were a bunch of out-of-control kids out
there," he said recently. "Finally, a friend took me there one day to
play, and I just fell in love with it right away."
