Chinese monks defend the honor of; Kung fu

After decades of seeing their spiritually based martial art maligned and exploited in a succession of kung fu flicks, 20 Shaolin monks and five young students have emerged from a 1,500-year-old monastery in Henan, China, to reclaim its nobility.

Their medium for enlightenment is a theatrical spectacle called "Shaolin: Wheel of Life" unfolding at 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, at The Forum in Harrisburg.

This internationally touring production traces kung fu's lineage from its spiritual roots to its emergence as a martial arts form.
