Personal property tax -- let's make a deal

Lancaster County taxpayers are required to act on the personal property tax by March 1.

The personal property tax, as it had existed, was found to be unconstitutional by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Now the county must do something to remedy the situation.

On Feb. 16, the Lancaster County Assessment Office sent a letter to each taxpayer who paid Lancaster County personal property tax offering a "mutual release" provided he or she acts by March 1.
