Port Fourchon vulnerability could incite terrorists

Harbor Chief of Police Jon Callais wonders how long Port Fourchon will be safe from terrorist attacks.

Port Fourchon has no cargo tracking system, no incoming vessel identification, no gates and no way to track roughly 2,000 workers at the 15-square-mile site in Lafourche Parish. The port is a sitting duck despite a 15-person harbor police force, a patrol boat and 17 security cameras, he said.

"We don't want to paint a big bull's eye to let the bad guys know we are here but it's true," Callais said. "If they were in here to do something wrong, they are in the right place."
