The city of Baltimore's efforts to regain title to an urban renewal lot it mistakenly sold for unpaid taxes amounted to too little, too late, the Court of Special Appeals has held.

The decision is a win for Taxi LLC, which bought the vacant lot at 123 N. Howard St. for $11,000 at the city's May 2003 tax sale.

Less than a year earlier, the city had condemned 123, 125 and 127 N, Howard St., valued together at $600,000, as part of the Market Center Urban Renewal Project.

The city claimed the tax sale was invalid, since it had "disposed of" the taxes in the condemnation process.
