Savile Row loses its rag
|
THE quarrel over the redevelopment of Savile Row, the London
street famous for its bespoke tailoring businesses, will come to a
head on Tuesday when the landlord meets angry tailors and planning
officials to discuss the area's future.
The inaugural meeting of the Savile Row Strategic Group will pit
landlord Pollen Estates, which plans to redevelop the area to include
multiple fashion chain stores, against the gentlemen's tailors and
Westminster City Council, who fear that the introduction of mass-
market retailers could jeopardise the street's illustrious heritage.
