The airline business has always attracted daredevils and showmen.
From Howard Hughes to Kirk Kerkorian, fortunes have been made and
lost flying planes in an attempt to turn a profit. Civil aviation has
been a boom and bust game since the day it started, with the world's
first daily international air service from Hounslow Heath to Paris on
August 25 1919.
Supposedly the industry has generated a net trading loss since its
founding, but quite a few outstanding entrepreneurs have done well
from it.
