Inmarsat, the satellite operator, will be hoping that what goes up doesn't come down again when later this month it becomes the biggest flotation in London for nearly two years.

The company's proposed pounds 1.1bn listing will fire it into the top echelons of the FTSE 250 index and it could quickly rocket into the FTSE100 if investors buy into Inmarsat's growth story.

The company is hoping to raise about $690m ( pounds 380m) to pay down its debt to around $900m.
