The Baltimore Orioles ended a wildly inconsistent road trip on a positive note. A share-the-spotlight offense and seven good innings by starter Sid Fernandez permitted them to avoid a three-game sweep by the Chicago White Sox with an 8-4 victory in front of 37,454 at Comiskey Park today.

This one was not without its anxious moments for the Orioles (27-19), who faced Frank Thomas in one tight situation in the eighth inning and just missed seeing him again in the ninth.
