HOME reversion schemes must be regulated by the Financial Services Authority as soon as possible. This is the unequivocal conclusion arrived at by all respondents to the Treasury's consultation on the subject, which closed on Friday.

Everyone - including the main consumer bodies, charities for the elderly and members (both existing and putative) of the equity release industry - has warned that, if the schemes are left unregulated, disaster will follow.
