It must have been peculiarly galling for the Duke of Buccleuch to suffer the theft from Drumlanrig Castle on Wednesday morning of Leonardo da Vinci's Madonna with the Yarnwinder - and not only because the painting itself had been in his family's hands for more than 250 years. For "Johnny" Buccleuch, who will be 80 next month, has a remarkable record of holding on to the things that are his.
