I seem to have been put on various BBC guest lists. I've been invited to at least three parties by the corporation in recent months, and even a dinner at an expensive Soho restaurant. This is great fun for me - but I'm not convinced it offers the licence payer tremendous value. It compounds my mixed feelings for the BBC: it is a fantastic institution, but suffering from serious flaws.

A couple of years ago I was persuaded to make a programme with the BBC called Back to the Floor. This is the show where a chairman or chief executive returns to the ranks and sees how life is on the front line.
