Long live the mystery of Sutton Hoo

There are not many cartoons on the subject of archaeology, but a
good one was published last year. It had two drawings, the first
showing a tiny piece of pottery with the caption "Archaeological
Find". The second drawing showed an ancient village with detailed
houses and intricately dressed people weaving, cooking, hunting and
trading. The caption read "Archaeological Reconstruction Based
on Find".
Archaeology is often a work of the imagination as much as an exact
science, and I was reminded of this again when visiting the site of
