Why go?

Geneva spans the Rhone where the river flows from the startlingly green Lake Geneva, against a backdrop of the Jura mountains on the right and the Alps on the left (on a clear day you can see Mont Blanc). This cosmopolitan city, which has a tradition of welcoming refugees, is the base for many international organisations. And it has more than 1,000 restaurants, as well as good shops and museums.
