Under the lights of the big top, to the jaunty strains of a brass band, nine-year-old Jamie Crutcher and a clown are circling the ring on their unicycles. With rictus grins, they slalom in and out of a line of Coke cans. Then they link hands to perform a little dance on their cycles, kicking one foot out in front of the other.
