For years, ordinary investors have been begging the big fund managers to stand up and speak out against fat-cat executives. Now a new breed of institutional investor seems to be doing just that. But with share prices tumbling and the value of some funds falling even faster, questions are being posed about the high pay and accountability of the fund managers themselves.

Star managers of big funds attract multi-million pound bonus packages, often far higher than the company executives they love to criticise, but details of exactly how they earn these payouts are usually not divulged.
