For Turkey, anything beyond the quarter-finals of this World Cup was supposed to be a bonus. At least, the last eight was the target set by coach Senol Gunes when he and his squad began what is the Turks' first appearance in the finals for 48 years. Some people laughed at such ambition because Turkey did not qualify automatically for Japan and Korea and had to play off against Austria to join the party in the Far East. But they are not laughing now.

After their extra-time win over Senegal they now face what could be a highly-charged re-match in the semi-final against Brazil who beat them 2-1 ...
