THE WIDOW of Philip Lawrence, the murdered London headteacher, has launched a bitter attack on the Government for failing to curb violent crime.

Frances Lawrence, whose husband was stabbed to death outside his school in 1995, accused ministers of presiding over an "Alice in Wonderland" justice system that favours criminals.

Mrs Lawrence, who has run the Home Office-funded Philip Lawrence Awards scheme since 1997 in an attempt to reduce violent crime, said that she was encouraged by a more robust approach on crime but said that the Government had so far failed to act effectively enough against ...
