New king accepts job, admits nervousness

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia's newly appointed king, Norodom Sihamoni, said on Friday he was "extremely touched" by his selection to lead the nation, but also a bit nervous about his lack of experience.

In his first official statement since being appointed, he said he accepted "this supreme mission" from his father, Norodom Sihanouk, in the interest of the country's stability and to help ensure the survival of the monarchy.

"I am extremely touched by the news... about the unanimous decision," Sihamoni said.
