Anna Wambui remembers well the day last October when the raiders struck.

They came from across the hills surrounding Enosupukia, 500 warriors in all, dressed in the traditional red wrap of the Masai and brandishing spears, panga knives, sharpened sticks, even guns. She was able to flee into the bush - Masai tradition forbids killing women - but when she returned to her farm a few days later, her belongings were being carted away and some of her neighbors had been killed.
