A vice-premier in Premier Zhu Rongji's cabinet for five
consecutive years since March 1998, Wen Jiabao was assigned
responsibility for the nation's agriculture, rural areas, development
planning and finance. He more than met the task and for his superb
performance in office, he was widely acclaimed a "pragmatic, prudent
and all-competent leader."
