Zhu returns from South Asia visit

China Daily | January 19, 2002| | Copyright

Premier Zhu Rongji arrived in Beijing yesterday from the Indian city of Bangalore, the last leg of a five-day visit to India.

Zhu's week-long South Asia tour, the country's first diplomatic manoeuvre to its neighboring countries this year, also took him to Bangladesh.

"The premier's visit has been a big success," said Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi. "His visit has consolidated the traditional Sino-Bangladeshi friendship and enhanced common understanding and trust between China and India."

Zhu was the first Chinese premier to have visited Bangladesh in 12 years and India in a decade.
