Donald Judd, Minimalist Artist, Dies

Donald Judd, 65, one of the most influential minimalist artists
of America's postwar period, died of lymphoma Feb. 12 at a hospital
here. He had homes in New York, Texas and Switzerland.
The sculptor and designer began to make his mark in the art
world in the 1950s. By the early 1960s, he was a well-respected
artist and leader of the minimalist movement. By the end of that
decade, his cubic and rectangular works had helped redefine the
direction of postwar sculpture. His work could be sleek and clean,
and seem nearly weightless, made from exotic and lushly colored
metals.
