In the unfashionable part of Cambridge where I live, we sometimes speak of elegant West Cambridge as the Goat Cheese Belt, and it was indeed goat cheese, on tasty crackers, that Jean and Carl Koch served recently at a visit to their house.

Predictability stopped with the cheese. Absolutely nothing else about this house is conventional. What Carl and Jean have done, in fact, has outraged the Cambridge Historical Commission, the outfit that functions as the town's revered taste police.
