Financial planners like to say they are professionals like accountants, lawyers, physicians or architects. For 2 1/2 years, the certifying body for the largest group of planners has been trying to write some practice standards that would help convince the public of this.

But after reading the proposed Code of Professional Responsibility it looks like most of them still see financial planning as a more complicated way to sell life insurance.
