Kay stepped out of anonymity, into the spotlight

"She just came out of nowhere," marveled City Councilor David Scondras of Barbra Kay. "I've only known her two weeks."

But when Kay's Irish-American Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Pride Committee won a courtroom victory yesterday for the right to march in the St. Patrick's Day parade, she immediately went to City Hall to personally thank Scondras, the city's only openly gay elected official, for his support.

Despite such a short acquaintance, Scondras has nothing but high praise for Kay.

"She's exhibited a greater capacity to bring people together and get things done than many people in public ...
