Bankrupt Lynn automobile dealer Bob Brest, a key figure in a
federal grand jury investigation of Rep. Nicholas Mavroules, obtained
a parcel of land by city officials in 1985 at a price below market
rates, according to municipal records.
Brest received the parcel in December 1985, after the City Council
voted unanimously to abandon Hersey Street, a road that abutted
Brest's mammoth dealership. The council split the street's 91,000
square feet between Brest and Sea Crest, a neighboring automobile
dealership.
