MIT SAYS NUCLEAR REACTOR SECURE, BUT SOME FRETFUL

The weeks following Sept. 11 have brought heightened security
measures at nuclear reactors nationwide, including a small research
facility owned by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that does
not produce electricity but does have enriched uranium in its core.
To help ensure the safety of their facility, MIT officials
provided few details about the stepped-up security except to say that
it is in accord with federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission
guidelines. An armed guard is posted inside the reactor building
around the clock, and "detailed emergency and security plans" are in
