JAMES CONNOLLY, A GROTON FIRE CHIEF

James J. Connolly of West Groton, a retired chief of the Groton Fire Department, died Wednesday in his home. He was 72.

Born in Ayer, Mr. Connolly spent most of his life in Groton. He graduated from Groton High School in 1948.

He served in the Navy for three years. He also worked as head custodian of Groton-Dunstable Regional High School.

Mr. Connolly was a member of the Groton Fire Department for 22 years before being appointed chief in 1982. He retired in 1994.
