The Red Sox won't be making the first pitch at tonight and tomorrow's games: Their wives and girlfriends will.

They'll be outside the park hawking "Crowding the Plate," an anecdotal cookbook of Sox likes and dislikes, favorite recipes, and such.

Stacey Beck, Jessica Hillenbrand, and Bitsy Hatteburg were among the crew at a table by the ticket office last week.

"It's a total group effort," says Beck. "We've raised about $40,000, and it goes to the Children's AIDS Program at Boston Medical Center."

The Red Sox are having a stellar season despite half the team's being on the DL, so the mood is ...
