Wei's Sister Brings Appeal To Washington; Meetings Here Aimed At Pressuring China

The youngest sister of jailed Chinese dissident Wei Jingsheng made
a public appeal here yesterday for President Clinton to press hard
for her brother's release, urging that he telephone Chinese President
Jiang Zemin to discuss the issue.
Just hours after a Beijing court sentenced her brother to 14 years
in jail on sedition charges, Wei Shanshan went to Capitol Hill, where
she called on the U.S. government and American businessmen to put
principle before profit and support a policy that would link human
rights improvements to beneficial U.S. trade regulations regarding
China.
