One less year of Latin at Latin? It's happening.

Officials at Boston Latin School - America's oldest public school, alma mater to 3 1/2 centuries of poets, philosophers, and politicians, where history literally hangs in the hallways - is easing its Latin language requirement from five years to four.

Educators say the change is a natural evolution of teaching the classical language - required since the prestigious grades 7-12 school was founded in 1635 - and will strengthen Latin classes.
