When Boston luminaries gather to open the new "Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge," it won't be the first time that a monument to the famous battle is dedicated amid talk of overcoming racial and religious divides.

Governor Paul Cellucci wanted to name the bridge exclusively after Zakim to salute the late director of the New England chapter of the Anti-Defamation League for building bridges between racial and religious groups. But some residents in Charlestown, where the bridge is located, wanted the name to reflect the neighborhood and the Revolutionary War battle that took place there. ...
