HYDE PARK - For instructors and students of the Bay State Ice Skating School, the chill in the air at skating rinks across Greater Boston has little to do with the ice.

Opened in 1969, the school has taught skating to adults and children at 18 rinks owned and run by the state Metropolitan District Commission in the Boston area, among them eight in the city proper.
