Afriend of mine occasionally uses the epithet "mad in the classical sense," and I think it applies to West Barnstable author Alexander Theroux, the oldest of the famous writing Therouxs (Paul, Peter, and Phyllis, an in-law). To me, the phrase denotes an angry, discombobulated mind, lapsing into flashes of brilliance. That would be Alex Theroux to a T.
