When the Russian revolution threatened the religious practices of
the Russian Orthodox Church in 1917, prince and artist Alexis Arapoff
of St. Petersburg left the country and eventually found his way to
the Boston area. Here, he kept the Christian Russian spirit alive by
creating modern versions of the small devotional paintings known as
icons.
