Josef Douglin was 15 and living in Roxbury the first time he saw a Guardian Angel.

Douglin and his father were out walking one night when a group of Guardian Angels in their trademark red berets and jackets passed them on the street.

Douglin asked his father who they were and what they stood for. They believe in fighting crime without using weapons, his father explained, and setting a good example for young people. They respect education, racial and ethnic diversity, and the right to take a hoodlum down if he's caught in a criminal act, the father added.
