`Aeneas in Hell': The Sequel

Henry Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" is getting a lot of performances this year, the 300th anniversary of the composer's death, but it has never been presented as it was Friday night in the University of Maryland's Ulrich Recital Hall. The university's music department and opera studio have a new old opera, titled "Aeneas in Hell," that looks like a viable partner for "Dido and Aeneas" as a double feature.

"Aeneas in Hell" was concocted by Paul Griffiths, music critic of the New Yorker, using songs and dance music composed by Purcell for various shows and stitching the musical numbers together ...
