OSLO - In 1950, Oslo celebrated its 900th anniversary. This year,
it's proudly and unabashedly celebrating its 1,000th.
It's not that Norwegians can't do the math. This skinny,
underpopulated country on the west coast of Scandinavia has an
excellent educational system. The reason for the rewrite of history
is that researchers found some thousand-year-old records of the
city's existence in time for Oslo's millennium to coincide
conveniently with the year 2000.
